Middle of January
and going back to visit people we already know. For the most part, the members are very happy
We are continuing to do great here even though it is the middle of January. We have had some cold and snowy weather, but it hasn’t been too bad. The locals say that it has been a mild winter so far.
We are still meeting new people and going back to visit people we already know. For the most part, the members are very happy to see us, even though some of them have not been to church in a while. We received a call a couple of weeks ago from a member who wanted to come back to church. This last Sunday he came, even though it had been over 20 years since he had been to our church. The Elder’s quorum lesson was on the talk by President Oaks on the need for church. This lesson was perfect for him. He even bore a testimony about the church during the lesson. We feel like we are making good connections with the people in the ward. We have been warmly welcomed and we really do love them.
Covid-19 is running wild here. Many families in the ward are currently sick. We have postponed many visits because people are sick. We upgraded to the KN95 masks and are wearing them in most homes to keep us safer. We never thought that after two years we would still be fighting the virus.
We are helping out some with the missionary apartments. Last week we helped move and clean an apartment in the town of Morris that is no longer being used by the missionaries. Tomorrow we are going to Rensselaer Indiana to help clean out another apartment. We have also been asked to do quarterly apartment inspections for the Joliet zone.
The weather has been cold enough that the Illinois River has frozen over, except for the channel that the barges break up to move up and down the river. The small channel of open water brings in the bald eagles to fish. We enjoy watching the eagles along with other wildlife such as turkeys, hawks, cranes and deer.
We hope everyone is doing well. Remember, spring is just around the corner.
Love,
Elder and Sister Curtis
