New Year and Winter

We made it through the holiday season and into the new year.  We had a quiet New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.  On New Year’s Day we had a blizzard, which shut down the roads and made travel very dangerous.  We didn’t get that much snow, but the wind blew over the corn fields and iced up the roads.  They cancelled church for the entire Joliet Stake on January 2nd because the roads were impassable.  By Sunday afternoon we were able to get out and shovel for some of the church members.  We were also able to take the sacrament to several church members who hadn’t been able to partake for a while.  Since then, the weather has turned very cold.  Tonight it is forecast to be about -5 deg. F with strong winds bringing the wind chill down to about -20 deg. F.  We do need to leave early in the morning to go to Joliet for a zone meeting.  The roads are forecast to be dry, except for some blowing snow.  Most of the drive in to Joliet is on the freeway, and they usually keep the freeway pretty clear.

We wrapped up our Christmas visits this last week.  We were able to meet in the homes of all of the active members and a fair number of less active members.  We have now started to concentrate on visiting the rest of the members, although we have had mixed success in meeting with them so far.  We are finding a lot of addresses that appear to be incorrect.  We are hearing of a number of ward members that have covid 19.  We need to be careful about where we go and who we visit.  We are back to wearing masks as much as possible, even in the members homes.  We hope and pray that this latest surge will be the beginning of the end to the pandemic.

We hope all of you had a great Christmas and will have a happy new year.

Love,

Elder and Sister Curtis

  2. Oh Deanne, I miss you! Stay safe and be careful. I'm just thankful you both are vaccinated and boosted, and I'm glad you're masking! Is it too early for a countdown?
