Labor Day
Joliet Zone
It is labor day weekend, so I guess its been a while since we sent an update. This also means that we have only 2 weeks left before we head home. We have very mixed emotions about our service coming to an end. We truly love the people here and the ward and we will sincerely miss them. On the other hand we are excited to get back home, especially to see our family. Even though we love our service here, the hardest part is being away from family.
We have continued to do much of the same service as we previously mentioned. We visit active and less active members. We provide service in any way we can. We participate in stake and ward activities. We teach the gospel whenever we have an opportunity. We attend meetings with the other missionaries. We inspect the younger missionaries’ apartments. We serve at the local community food bank. All of this brings joy as we learn and serve with others.
One of the great opportunities we have as missionaries is to learn directly from the Lord’s servants. Elder Gary Stevenson came to Chicagoland just over a week ago along with Bishop Gerald Causse and 2 members of the seventy. They held meetings with local leaders, young adults and our mission. All of the missionaries were invited to attend the mission meeting. To start, the general authorities invited all the missionaries to line up and shake each of their hands. This was a very special experience. There was an overpowering feeling of great power as we all arose when our leaders entered the chapel. Elder Stevenson talked about the revised Preach My Gospel book. He spent a lot of time talking about teaching the gospel restoration. He also spent time talking about making sure the Holy Ghost is present in each lesson. We loved this experience.
We will be heading home on September 18th. Prior to leaving we will be speaking in the Ottawa Ward on September 17th at 9:30. We will also be speaking at the Kenwood 2nd Ward on September 24th at 9:00. The Kenwood 2nd Ward building is located at 2930 South 20th East in Salt Lake City. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings.
We look forward to seeing all of you soon.
Love,
Elder and Sister Curtis
